Clothing, whether as a product or a piece of art, is ultimately embodied in concrete material form. The art of costume design also has the characteristics of space art. It is also a "space soft sculpture" made up of various materials and structures in various forms. It is shown in the coordination of the objective factors such as the clothing environment, lighting and light, and so on through its close cooperation with the human body.

Shaping the three-dimensional space of clothing design

Clothing is a state after people dress. People are stereoscopic. Clothing is also a space occupying space.

When people are looking at clothing styles, colors and fabrics, they tend to neglect the importance of three-dimensional space. The three-dimensional space includes the space between the human body and the clothing, the movement space and the static space. It will directly affect the function and shape of the garment, and how to shape the ideal space between the clothing and the human body, the moving space and the static space, is a topic worthy of study for the clothing designer.

Human body and clothing three-dimensional space

An excellent fashion design work is inseparable from the human body's auxiliary clothing appearance is attractive because it sets off the beauty of human body very well.

Understanding the relationship between the human body and the three-dimensional space of clothing is the precondition for garment design.

The gap between the human body and the clothing determines the shape of the three-dimensional space of the garment.

Usually, designers call this gap the amount of relaxation. The understanding of relaxation and the handling of relaxation affect the shape of clothing three-dimensional space.

From the perspective of clothing design, there are three states of relaxation between the human body and the garment. The first is zero relaxation, and clothing and human body are always left behind, such as underwear.

The second is negative relaxation. Clothing cuts into the body surface, such as bathing suits, tights, and so on.

The third is positive relaxation, and clothing leaves the body surface, such as loose fitting clothing.

Designers should take into account the following aspects in setting the relaxation of clothing: (1) relaxation of clothing patterns, (2) the amount of relaxation required for movements, (3) physiological relaxation in clothing, and (4) the amount of sensory relaxation, such as dressing impressions, (5) physical relaxation of materials, (6) physical relaxation, such as volume and nature of the gap, (7) relaxation of skin structures such as skin elongation and slippage.

The amount of relaxation determines the space between the clothing and the human body. From another angle, the amount of relaxation is small. Clothing is close to the human body, which helps to express the beauty of the body.

In order to better reflect the three-dimensional effect of clothing, modern people can beautify themselves by fitting the body more physically and scientifically.

For example, through the use of various linings to make the chest bulge and plump, make the surface of the garment smooth and hem straight; use shoulder pads to make the shoulders full and symmetrical; use the lining to limit the elongation of the clothes, reduce the wrinkles and wrinkles of the clothes, and make the garments get good shape retention.

The purpose is to make the garment three-dimensional space more perfect.
