The third largest exporter of cotton in the world, Uzbekistan today says it has produced 600 thousand tons of cotton for sale, aiming to take advantage of soaring global prices.


"Uzbekistan has produced 600 thousand tons of cotton fiber from this year's cotton for sale," the Ministry of foreign economic relations of the Central Asian country said in a statement.


Uzbekistan's prime minister, Shavkat Mirziyayev, praised cotton harvest at the national annual cotton fair. Officials estimated that cotton exports would earn 500 million dollars.


But he added that Uzbekistan plans to cut.

"We are planning to increase domestic cotton processing to 70%. by 2015," he said.


Uzbekistan's cotton exports to China, Bangladesh, Iran, Pakistan and Russia are expected to produce 1 million 100 thousand tons of cotton fiber this year.


Uzbekistan is the sixth largest cotton producing country in the world. The average output of raw cotton is about 3 million 500 thousand tons, and the output of cotton fiber is 1 million 200 thousand tons.
