Exports of US $140 million, an increase of 4.3% over the same period last year, has been significantly slower than the 9.9% increase in exports over the same period last year.

It is reported that there are three main reasons for the slowdown in Weihai's textile and clothing exports to Japan: first, domestic

cotton

The price has reached the highest level in 15 years, rising only 37% in the first half of this year. The increase of cost has further reduced the profit margins of enterprises. Secondly, Japanese officials are preparing to modify preferential tariff system for imported products from developing countries and reduce the discount rate, which will further increase the price of textile and clothing exports to Japan, thereby reducing the competitiveness of products in the Japanese market. Third, the garments from Vietnam and other ASEAN countries enjoy zero tariff treatment for Japanese exports, thus relying on low cost advantages to occupy the market share of our low-end textile products.

Take Vietnam as an example. In the first 7 months of this year, its exports to Japan's textile and clothing increased by 23%.

On the one hand, Weihai will organize enterprises to participate in the fourteenth China Shandong Export Commodities Exhibition (Japan), and further increase the policy subsidies for enterprise booth fees, exhibits pportation fees and public publicity fees.

On the other hand, we should seize the current strategic opportunities for domestic enterprises to acquire Japanese enterprises, and promote the merger and acquisition of Weihai textile and garment enterprises with strong R & D capability, perfect sales channels and mature brands.
