Guangdong Zhongshan inspection and Quarantine Bureau issued a warning to the export enterprises within the jurisdiction on 19 th: because the EU has decided to extend the validity period of the ban on methyl esters of fumaric acid for one year to March 15, 2011, the export to European Union countries needs to be highly concerned about its impact.

According to people concerned, the ban was issued by the European Union in 2009, and the extension was carried out in the form of 2010/153/EU Committee resolution.

Prior to that, China's footwear and toy products were repeatedly recalled due to the inclusion of the substance.

The extension of the validity period of the ban will have a certain impact on export trade.

It is understood that the two methyl fumarate has a strong bactericidal effect, can inhibit more than 30 kinds of common bacteria, yeasts and molds, is widely used in leather, footwear, textiles, bamboo and wood products and other sterilization and mildew treatment, but if the excessive use of fumaric acid two methyl ester, may cause consumers skin allergies, rashes or burns pain.

The main products of such products, including footwear, clothing and furniture products, may be contained in export products, people said.

According to the statistics of Zhongshan inspection and Quarantine Bureau, the footwear products exported to Zhongshan in 2009 were 70 million 133 thousand and 300 US dollars, an increase of 7.2% compared with the same period last year. The export of EU furniture products was 50 million 532 thousand and 300 US dollars, an increase of 61.8% compared with the same period last year, while the clothing exported to the EU reached US $444 million, an increase of 48.6% over the same period last year.

If these products contain two methyl fumarate products and exceed the standard, they will cause the whole batch of products to be returned or recalled, and the enterprises will suffer losses.

To this end, Zhongshan inspection and Quarantine Bureau reminded the relevant export enterprises:

First, the monitoring of the content of fumaric acid two methyl ester should not be relaxed. When the supply contract is signed with the raw material suppliers, the content of methyl fumarate should be included in the scope of the contract monitoring. If necessary, the supplier should provide the relevant proof that the two methyl ester of fumaric acid does not contain.

Two, in the daily production process, desiccant and mould inhibitor should be sent to the sample to ensure that the product complies with the instructions.

Three, use environmentally-friendly desiccant and mildew preventive agents, or adopt better methods of physical mildew prevention, such as using environmental mildew proof paper and mould proof bags to combat microbiological hazards.
